‘A Purely Genetic Connection’ is the first single from Sordid Ordeal’s debut album ‘When I Left Town’.
The song represents Sordid Ordeal in its rawest pub rock form, taking cues from the likes of AC/DC and Billy Thorpe, it’s a triumphant, bluesy, head-banging thunder track with that uniquely Australian grit. Huge drums and grooving bassline, the filthy rhythm guitars are offset by the screaming lead lines at the end.
The song is an unrestrained outburst at a Catholic upbringing and the trauma that comes with it trying to navigate a modern world and shrug off institutionalised homophobia, sexism and racism.
Blatantly personal and confronting, ‘A Purely Genetic Connection’ is a clichéd story that has been played out in families across the world in every different community and religion imaginable, spanning cultures and creeds but told in a rural Australian setting by a new generation trying to desperately to move forward.
